Student finance decisions affect people’s money for decades. This policy sets out the standards every page on this site must meet.
1. People first
We write for students, parents and carers who need a clear answer. Every page must answer a real question people ask, lead with the answer, and help the reader take the next step. We don’t publish pages just to attract search traffic.
2. Sources
- Primary sources only for figures: GOV.UK, the Student Loans Company, Student Finance Wales, SAAS, Student Finance NI / nidirect, and legislation.
- Secondary sources (universities, charities, reputable media, surveys) may be used for context and are always named and linked.
- Every guide lists its sources at the end.
3. Accuracy and fact-checking
- Every number is checked against its source before publication.
- Calculators are tested against official published tables before release (see How we calculate).
- Each page shows the date its figures were last checked.
4. Use of AI tools
We may use AI writing and coding tools to help draft text or code. A human editor reviews every page, checks every figure against the official source and is responsible for what is published. We never publish AI-generated content without that review.
5. Updates
We review all calculators and guides when new rates are announced for the next academic year, when repayment thresholds or interest rates change, and when official guidance changes. Time-sensitive pages (rates, payment dates) are reviewed at least once each term.
6. Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it as soon as it’s confirmed and note significant corrections on the page. Report an error at our contact page.
7. Independence and advertising
- We are independent and not affiliated with any government body or lender.
- Adverts are served by Google AdSense, are clearly labelled and are kept separate from our content. Advertisers cannot influence what we write.
- We don’t accept payment for coverage or links, and we don’t earn commission from lenders.
8. Not financial advice
Our tools and guides provide general information to help you plan. They are not personal financial advice. For decisions about your own circumstances, contact your student finance provider or your university’s money advice service.
