SAAS support by income band
| Household income | Young students (bursary + loan) | Independent students (bursary + loan) |
|---|---|---|
| Up to £20,999 | £2,000 + £9,400 = £11,400 | £1,000 + £10,400 = £11,400 |
| £21,000 – £23,999 | £1,125 + £9,400 = £10,525 | £0 + £10,525 = £10,525 |
| £24,000 – £33,999 | £500 + £9,400 = £9,900 | £0 + £9,900 = £9,900 |
| £34,000 and above | £0 + £8,400 = £8,400 | £0 + £8,400 = £8,400 |
The same amounts apply whether you study in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK, and whether you live at home or away.
Young or independent?
You’re a young student if you’re under 25 at the start of the academic year and none of the independence rules apply. You’re independent if, for example, you’re 25 or over, married, have supported yourself for at least three years, or are care-experienced.
Scottish student loans are repaid on Plan 4: 9% of income over £33,795 a year.
